Of Hurricanes and Thousand Year Old Trees – Mixed Media Fine Art Print
In 2017, I visited the Big Tree on Goose Island in Rockport, Texas — a live oak estimated to be over a thousand years old. Weeks later, Hurricane Harvey hit the same coastline. Around the same time, a solar eclipse passed overhead, and I made a decision that changed the course of my life.
This painting holds all of it. Sheet music, Feynman diagrams, eclipse shadows filtering through branches, and the warm sepia turbulence of a landscape caught between destruction and endurance. All of these layers came together over one Sunday morning art session in 2020 while reflecting on the anniversary of this tumultuous week in my life using calligraphy ink, charcoal, chalk pastel, and collage on mixed media paper.
The original is held in a private collection.
